Apollo halts production of truck tires in Hungary

Apollo Tyres has confirmed that it is discontinuing the production of truck tires at its plant in Hungary and relocating the production of this category to India. The production of truck tires at the Apollo plant in Hungary began at the end of 2018, with the plant's nominal capacity in this segment estimated at 675,000 units per year.

The company notes that the relocation of production is being carried out "as part of a long-term strategy to align capacities with market demand", and the plant in Dunaújváros is currently increasing the production of tires for passenger and light commercial vehicles. "This project is driven by regional demand and the need to maintain our cost competitiveness in the passenger tire market," Apollo says. "We are relocating the production of radial truck and bus tires to our modern plants in India, which have all the necessary capabilities to serve the European market in accordance with the same principles of ensuring competitiveness."

Pneus News portal notes that currently, there is a weak demand for truck tires in Europe, and the forecasts are also not very positive, affecting not only Apollo but also other suppliers. At the same time, Apollo is definitely not intending to leave the European truck tire market and will supply products manufactured in India.

A year ago, Apollo announced the closure of its research center in Raunheim near Frankfurt (Germany), and in the spring of 2025, it was announced that the Vredestein plant in Enschede (Netherlands) would be shut down by the summer of next year. In April, Apollo's Chairman of the Board, Onkar Kanwar, said that these measures are related to the company's "unsatisfactory results" in the previous financial year.
