The winter non-studded tire Goodyear UltraGrip Ice WRT was developed using technical solutions tested by North American tire manufacturers several decades ago. And this does not mean that the world-renowned manufacturer has nothing new. Simply, these technologies even in our days offer not only high efficiency of the tires created on their basis, but also wide opportunities for their further improvement.
Three-dimensional lamellas
One of such "old" technologies is the three-dimensional lamellas 3D-BIS, which are cut into the blocks of the shoulder zones of the tread. They differ significantly from their original version, both in the shape of the formed grip edges (they are straight) and in the density of arrangement (it is less). These changes are dictated by the need to increase the stiffness of the shoulder zones of the tread, which has a positive effect on handling. At the same time, the grip properties are at a more than acceptable level, thanks to the significant length of the lamellas.
Special polymers in the rubber mixture
The tread of this model is made from a compound optimized for certain operating conditions, such as icy coatings and rolled snow to a very smooth state. The rubber mixture contains not only silica, but also special polymeric substances. With their help, the tread is given an optimal level of elasticity, which ensures maximum grip with the road.
Main features of Goodyear Ultragrip Ice WRT
- three-dimensional lamellas in the shoulder zones reduce the braking distance and increase stability during maneuvering;
- special polymer in the rubber mixture improves grip properties on ice and snow;
- the arrow-shaped tread rib in the central part increases the accuracy of control and stability of grip at high speed, as well as reduces rolling resistance.
