The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic SUV SCT winter tire is based on the same model for passenger cars. While identical in tread pattern design, it differs in its reinforced construction, adapted to the technical characteristics of SUVs and crossovers, for which this tire is intended.
The tire's tread is two-layered. The inner layer is made of a more rigid compound, which improves handling accuracy and stability during maneuvering. The outer side is made of a rubber mixture with increased elasticity, which improves traction properties at low temperatures and on slippery surfaces.
The studs have an original triangular shape, due to several factors. One of them is the need to meet the "Scandinavian" requirements for the weight of the stud (no more than 1.1 grams). When installed, the steel elements are oriented in such a way that the longest edge works effectively during braking. This is logical, given that most winter accidents occur due to low deceleration intensity on ice. On snowy roads, the effectiveness of the tread is ensured by the presence of numerous and elongated edges formed by inclined drainage grooves.
Another significant advantage of the tire is acoustic comfort. It is ensured not only by optimizing the arrangement of studs and the design of the tread pattern. A much greater contribution to reducing noise is made by a special layer of polyurethane foam applied to the inner side of the tire.
Key features of the Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic SUV SCT
- a two-layered tread provides operational properties with perfect balance, without deteriorating any of them;
- a triangular stud, an optimized installation scheme reduce the braking distance on ice;
- reduced noise level due to the use of SoundComfort technology.
